REGISTRATION OF DEATH OUTSIDE SRI LANKA

We register the deaths of Sri Lankan citizens/dual citizens, under the regulations of the Sri Lanka Consular Functions Act No: 04 of 1981.

The informant of the death should be: Father/Mother/Spouse/Child/Sibling.

Applying at Melbourne office counter: You can submit your application by visiting in person, after obtaining an appointment through website slcgmel.org. You can obtain an appointment on any working day between 9.30am -1.30pm. For public holiday closures please visit here 

If you so visit Melbourne office and submit your application at our counter, and if you submit it within one year from the date of death, the death certificate will be issued by this office and notify you via email.

If you submit the application after one year from the death (even if you submit it at our counter), your application will be forwarded to the Registrar General’s Department for approval and the certificate will be issued upon receipt of the approval. 

Submitting application via post\ Applicants in South Australia:

You can submit your application via post as well. Application and supporting documents should be certified from our office before you post them.
